Cleddau Marathon race report 13/6/2026
Jun 14th, 2026 at 11:57am

Wiseman's Bridge coastal quad took on the Cleddau Marathon yesterday. Caroline in the Cox seat, Jade in stroke, Tyenne and Tom in the engine and Alison in bow (taking on some serious but cooling bow waves).
The race started at 2.30pm from Dale sailing Club  and saw the first wave of Celtics leave, followed by the single and double sculls at 2.45 and lastly the three coxed quads setting off at 3pm.
The water was calm, clear and the sun was shining.
Caroline expertly coxed us through the challenging and busy waters of St Brides bay where the water became chopping. Hear calm voice kept the crew relaxed whilst she kindly gave as a histolrical tour of the surrounding areas. We learnt so much 🤗

Caroline's skill and calmness took us through some very tight gaps under the oil pipes of the refinery.... we held our breath as our oars were inches from the edge! Once we crossed the channel - and played chicken with a few tug boats, the waters calmed and we positioned the boat in the fast flow of the tide. Jade set an expert rhythm of around 26 SPM that allowed us to put down the power and glide up the Cleddau.

We set off up the calm waters of the West Cleddau and with double the oars and a speedy coastal quad, we passed the Celtics, singles and double sculls one by one. Each one cheering us on 🎉

As we headed to the finish line at Haverfordwest, exhausted and delighted to have finished, crowds of people filled the banks, shouting and cheering. What a feeling 🤗
With sore hands and legs, a human chain of rowers helped get the boats up the massive steep bank, where everyone showed true sportsmanship.

At HaverHub, Llangwm hosted delicious post racing food, you guessed it..chilli!!! Washed down with a cold pint whilst the presentation was held. Each crew was presented with lovely T-shirts.
Wisemans Bridge quad won the fastest quad and the overall fastest boat of the day, in a respectable time of 2h and 59mins 🎉🎉
What a great day!! Thank you to Llangwm rowing club and the safety crews for a well run, safe and fun race👏 and thank you to the amazing crew who each rowed our hearts out. Thank you Tom and Tyenne who towed the boats miles for us to row ❤️
Until next year.....
