Totally agree. First and foremost rowing should always be #1. Fingers crossed we can get decent representation at league races and challenge events in future through one way or another. Many contributing factors to why this is fizziling out I'm sure!

I really don’t think the drop off in attendance at races is down to the cost of towing.. let’s put this into perspective. We have towed to GRR and we have just charged for fuel which can be quite a lot when towing for 500 miles (over £100)  To enter GRR is £100 per head compared to Cork which was £35 - it is very expensive by racing standards! (Plus 2 nights accommodation in London) I’m sure the interest in attending races has partly dropped off due to people being busy or not keen on racing - we have 2 boats going to Ramsey and had a few at PYC - it does need someone to drive and encourage everyone including the newer members to come along too!  (Our novice team were fab at PYC!!) - remember Neil’s mission at Solva a few years ago regarding a certain bet!!  Grin there were about 35 rowers there!!

I also think it’s unlikely the club could afford to start subsidising attendance at races further afield but this would need to be a club decision for discussion at an AGM/EGM

Onwards and upwards!  Cool

Without wanting to be negative .... but the comments are from mainly  non towers

The cost of towing is more than just fuel ... towing causes huge strain on vehicles, especially towing double long distances  ... tyres wear much quicker Gaskets blow ... etc

The fuel costs for London r tiny compared to cost to enter n have boats towed down river hotel etc

I do think the driver n people as passengers in towing vehicle need to pay higher proportion of cost as they r not contributing equally as others r taking own vehicles n paying for that too

Item for discussion at next committee meeting I think

Boys and Girls ,  this will be an agenda item in October for the AGM.
It's great so many people feel passionate about London and other challenge races , but as many of you remember we didn't use to charge for towing and our towing people at the time absorbed the costs. This was totally unacceptable due to the wear and tear on vehicles and the added stress of towing an 7 m trailer through middle of London , Cork , Caernarfon , Plymouth, Shropshire,

I personally feel we get great value for money from the club , but again this will be discussed in October at AGM.

Remember everyone it's only rowing . Enjoy the weather and enjoy being alive!
Will see you all on the water at club nights ..
