Cycle Fit Sessions - Wednesday 7.15pm
Nov 2nd, 2017 at 1:16pm

I was talking to Jon from Cycle Fit yesterday and he has agreed to put on some sessions for us if there is enough interest. These are open to anyone in the club and is good winter training, I found this very useful for my CarTen training last time as he gives tips on technique etc - also it means that you can keep a training base level through the winter even if the weather is poor!

Here is his reply below;
The class can be mixed ability which is no problem and juniors  are welcome as long as consent from their parents. If i can get a fairly definite number i can sort something out. We can work on pedal techniques, hill climbing and everything else we do in the classes.if there is enough and they pay for so many sessions in advance then I can sort out a price. Does that help?

*Please post below if you are interested in this - Weds 7.15pm for an hour (currently £5 but he may do a deal if enough numbers*

I would be interested in trying it out but you won't see me on a road bike.  Carten etc does not excite me.  I would however see it as an alternative for getting fit.

Mel - the sessions are open to anyone  whether they are doing the CarTen or not and are a great way to improve  fitness! You don't even need cycling gear! It's low impact too so great for any injuries and you never know .. CarTen 2019??  Cheesy

Hi - at this stage it doesn't look like there is enough interest to make it worth while for Jon to run a session for us as we would probably need at least around 10 - let me know in the next couple of days as I will need to get back to Jon this week.  Smiley

Jon does these sessions for the Narberth cycling club - they are good and well paced, and at a pace you can be happy with.  I dont know about the kit available in Tenby.  A bike and turbo is usually required.  However, as an alternative, the leisure centre in Tenby does have great facilities for cycling sessions and some of us are members there.  It may be worth asking is they can offer an hour slot to us - it's computer operated, and we can all go at our own pace.  I'm there tomorrow and will try and remember to make an enquiry.

Thanks Tony - Jon’s set up is 16 spin bikes and tonight we followed a ride on a screen with additional coaching from Jon about maintaining cadence etc. It was a good session and I’m keen to support him as I think the new bikes in the leisure centre will probably have impacted on his business. I had a chat to him tonight as I’ve struggled to generate enough interest but he is happy to revisit this in January. In the meantime his sessions are every evening and some mornings and cater for all abilities - Lottie cane for the first time tonight and Lowri comes along as well. The sessions are £5 for an hour with the first one free and if we do get a group together at some point, he’ll look at a discount.

They have a Facebook page cyclefit indoor cycling and you can book on line

It will also be interesting what the leisure centre has available as well! I may do both!!  Smiley

I agree about supporting Jon where numbers allow us to do.

I spoke to the leisure centre today and they can offer the following as a cycling exercise class:

1.  We - however many of us there may be - can join the public class on Weds evening from 7.30 to 8.20 and they are happy to reserve a number of bikes for us according to demand.  Members of the leisure centre are free, others are £5.50.
2.  We can hire the facility for an hour - potentially 8.30 on Weds - for £40 and get introductory coaching at the first session.  Any more than 7 attendees and this is a cheaper option.

The bikes are static exercise bikes, new and high tech, the class follows a "virtual instructor" lead session with changes in cadence, power, speed and some lovely scenery to watch on a 10 ft screen as you cycle to the beat of the music.  I've not counted, but there are about 20+ bikes in total, so its likely either option above can accommodate demand.

If the leisure centre is a go, I'd be happy to facilitate and help out.
