Title: Around Caldey Row Post by jim.b on May 7th, 2017 at 5:01pm
From Wiseman’s around Caldey Row
Please see attachment for distances. The best plan would be to go through Caldey Sound on the ebb tide about an hour before slack, giving a favourable tide most of the way. We would need calm conditions and so would have to call it according to the weather and tides. Please post if you would be interested and say whether you could do a weekday or only weekends. It seems like the attachment did not work. It is 13.3 nautical miles (15.7 statute miles), by the most direct route. The distance will increase by going round the bays, following the north coast of Caldey back to South Beach (+0.6miles) or calling at Dennis café (good idea). |

Sounds good to me. A Sunday would work best for me, but with a bit of notice I could make a weekday or Saturday instead.

Either myself or gog.
Also Thank you for spending time sorting these alternative rows out Jim, it keeps everyone excited and wanting more. We could also arrange a landing party on Caldy again like in 2013. :D |

It seems like most people so far would prefer a weekend and Caroline has warned me that she will change the locks if I do this without her again. Maybe we could do it more than once so that strong rowers like Simon and Ellen can both enjoy it. Bunty would like to come along as a passenger/bit part rower. Let’s get as many people on board as possible. A Caldey landing would be great, it was brilliant the last time and it would be a great alternative to Dennis Café.
Watch for a weather window: Possible dates and approximate times to depart Wisemans beach are: Sat 13th May 12.00; Sun 14th May 12.45 Sat 27th May 11.45; Sun 28th May 12.45 Sun 4th June 07.00 Sat 10th June 11.30; Sun 11 June 12.00 Sat 24th June 11.00; Sun 25th June 11.40 Sat 8th July 10.30; Sun 9th July 11.00 Sat 22nd July 09.45; Sun 23rd July 10.40 and August I am aware that Sundays may clash with race days. |

Title: Re: Around Caldey Row Post by jim.b on May 11th, 2017 at 10:03am
It is really nice that there is so much interest. Phil T has offered to let us use his boat for safety cover and I believe Gary may follow us round in his.
It will not be this weekend 13/14th May as SW F4 is predicted. Next possible date is 27/28th May if the weather is right and people are available. It will be short notice as it is entirely weather dependent. |

Title: Re: Around Caldey Row Post by Jet on May 15th, 2017 at 10:27pm
It's the New Quay race on the 28th which is a really good race to do if people fancy it? Sat 27th would be good and the girls would be up for it as well if people are happy for them to come along :)

Saturday the 27th is my birthday but no special celebrations this year :( however the 28th is also the start of Saundersfoot Sailing Club Coppet Week! Several people may have also be assisting with this.

Title: Re: Around Caldey Row Post by jim.b on May 23rd, 2017 at 10:44am
The weather was looking promising for Saturday 27th, but not so when I checked today. This could change as the week progresses, so please keep checking. With Coppet week and Newquay, Sunday 28th is probably out (I cannot do Sunday).

Title: Re: Around Caldey Row Post by jim.b on May 24th, 2017 at 2:24pm
It is still looking a bit iffy for Saturday with SW F3 wind and possible thunderstorms predicted (squalls?). Southwesterly against the tide in the Caldey channel could quick up a nasty chop. Check again on Friday.

Title: Re: Around Caldey Row Post by jim.b on May 25th, 2017 at 3:55pm
It was pretty choppy off Teby today once the seabreeze kicked in. Can we forget Caldey and think about a normal row on Saturday? See 'Satuday Row'

Title: Re: Around Caldey Row Post by Jake on May 25th, 2017 at 8:42pm
Monday is a bank holiday, forecast is currently showing northerly force 3 and dry. Would it be doable if that forecast holds? Who would be available?
Low water is 15:37, so maybe a stop for lunch on the way would work, either in Tenby or on Caldey. |
