Open water training for Newbies
Feb 25th, 2020 at 11:20am

I am arranging some open water training for the people who have joined the club over the winter (there are about a dozen). All sessions are weather dependent. Newbies can attend any or all of the sessions.
The sessions will be held in the harbour or just outside if people are doing well and the weather is good, the idea being to give people a head start to learn the basics before the new season gets underway.
Monday 9th March 13.30 at the sailing club: Safety briefing with Mark before erging.
Monday March 16th: Meet at the Sailing Club at 10.15 to be on the water by 10.30. Please note the earlier time as I made a mistake on my handout – HW is 10.45. Erg training in the afternoon as usual.
Friday March 20th: Meet at the Sailing Club at 13.30 to be on the water by 14.00. HW 16.00.
Sunday March 29th HW: 09.40BST: Meet at the Sailing Club at 08.30 to be on the water by 9.00. I messed up with this one as well as we are going away that weekend. I think other people will step up to run it but if not, I can do Monday 30th March or Tuesday 31st instead (times to be arranged)
Please confirm if you will be attending or are able to help with coaching.

Jim I should be able to assist on the 29th March. It is also the CRIW indoor rowing championships at Cardigan Leisure Centre on the 28th March from 10am until 5pm, hoping that a few Wisey crew will be able to attend this  Cool

Sorry got to do MOB training on the 29th, can someone take the juniors out or is it better to organise a separate session?

The two new juniors would like to come along on the 29th March - Lowri said she can help - please confirm that’s ok as we will need a DBS/Safeguarded person in the boat with them  Smiley Smiley

Thanks very much everyone for a typical Wisey's response, all of your help will be much appreciated. A special thanks to Andy for volunteering to run the 29th March sessions and getting me out of a hole. If Rod, Sparker or both could help him on that day we will have a good experienced group in charge. It looks like there will be 2 juniors there as well as the adults.
9th March is just a safety briefing from Mark at 1.30 followed by erging.

Mon 16th March HW Tenby: 10.49, 7.0m
The current forecast is F3 from WSW and dry. That could change over the next couple of days but it is looking like we are going to be lucky with the weather.
We have 9 new people coming and 6 offers of help plus me.
We will do 3 x 40-minute sessions with 3 newbies in each session.
Helpers: One to cox, one to stroke, one in passenger to coach from the bow and handle the painter and one on the pontoon to take lines, help crews swap around and coach from there.
There will be some hanging about for those not rowing but hot drinks and biscuits will be available at the club, or watch from the pontoon.
Team 1: Alex, Debbie, Clare.
Team 2: Sharon, Alan, Kevin
Team 3: Sue W, Sue S, Anne
All newbies turn up at 10.15 to help sort kit, safety briefing and introduction to the boat and to help launch.
If possible, all newbies stay until the end (12.50) to help recover the boat and pack things away.
Remember: warm clothing, footwear to get wet, water.
ERG sessions available from 2pm if anyone wishes to attend.

Thanks Rod, Phil. It makes sense to meet a bit earlier, but selfishly I was hoping to squeeze in a swim first. I can miss that, shall we say 9.45? You can make it even earlier if you like - please confirm. Not everyone will see this and some will turn up as planned but we can work around that.
