Ocean to City - 2nd June 2018
Oct 6th, 2017 at 5:18pm

Ok - one in the diary for next year!

Ocean to City http://oceantocity.com/the-race/ - supposed to be a cracking event! It's on Saturday 2nd June which is the end of half term week so we could make a bit of a long weekend of it? Perhaps travel on a Thurs and return on the Sunday?
Cork is approx 3 hours drive (max) from Rosslare
Accommodation ranges from around £20pp in hostel type accommodation to city centre hotels at around £120-£150 for a double room - or there is a campsite around 8kms outside Cork (I have emailed for more info and to see if they would be happy to accommodate us)

Registration doesn't open until Feb - However the Cork City Marathon is on the Sunday (for those of you who really want to go for it  Shocked) - but this does mean that accommodation particularly for the Sat night will be hard to come by.

I am happy to co-ordinate this and I need to know two things so I can get accommodation sorted before the race registration opens
1)Who is interested and can tow
2)What accommodation would people like? Hostel or Camping (I will sort) or hotel which can be organised by the individuals if the majority go with hostel or camping!

I haven't run this past the committee... sorry but we can also discuss at the AGM!

Please post below!  Smiley

This is where Llannion stay and they describe it as a bit 'cell block H' However it is walking distance in to Cork! - I have emailed them to check availability!

Something a little different.. yurts
We have full grounds available for the dates you requested and we can sleep up to 28 people on beds (4 yurts+2 vans)
Discounted rate for full grounds for Ocean to City participants is 550€ x night, for a total of 1650 for the 3 nights.
VW vans/camper vans are welcome and we have ample parking space for trailers.
Cork is 40 minutes drive from our place.
We can also cater for food for your crew is you wish.
This works out to about £20-£30 per night and I priced it for the Thurs, Fri and Sat nights to make a long weekend of it but it is a bit out of Cork!
Looks lovely though - very eco friendly - https://www.yurtecocamping.ie/

Finally - campsite
Yes we can accommodate your group from Thursday 30th May until Sunday 3rd June 2018 (3 nights).

I cannot give you an exact price as I do not know all the details and numbers of the group.
However our nightly rates will be
Campervan/tent pitch €8.00 + €7.00 per adult + €3.00 per child (u14) + €3.00 for electric hook-up.
Our site is 6 miles from Cork city and 2 miles from Blarney Village.
There is a public bus running every ½ hour from Blarney village to Cork city.
Otherwise we can organise a taxi from the campsite to the city.
Kind regards

What do people think?
*City centre hostel - bit basic - around £30 pp pn
*Eco friendly Yurts on a laid back site but 40mins away - around £20-£30pp pn
*Camping - 8 kms out - can get taxis - £8 pitch +£7 per adult so about £11 pp pn - less the more you get into a tent!

Sheila's will need a deposit, not sure about the others but I will need some commitment!

Wisey Holiday! Cool

There are also plenty of other hotels in Cork at approx £150 pn for a double room if you want to go more posh!!

The following people have expressed an interest so far;
The Crosses
Sparker
Gabi
Rodders
Nikki (Brian)
Steve Arnold
Libby and Graham
Who else? Duntons? Simo?

I really need to know if we are looking at 2 or 3 boats? Can people let me know if they are likely to want to come along?

The Cork City Marathon is on the Sunday 3rd June so accommodation will book up!  Smiley

Great! Yes please,  don't mind what we do. The hostel was fine, 10 in a room, breeze block walls, girls room+ a boys room. Was very central.  I'll go with whatever everyone fancies  Smiley

Us...
Sheilas hostel sounds good to me but I'm easy going and will go with whatever any one else wants...
Maybe a double room though instead of a dormitory!  Grin

Reply from Sheila's

We do have availability for  accommodation. I will quote just for the weekend and if you need extra days you can let me know
I only have Twin Std Rooms available (shared Bathroom)@ €27.00 per person per night sharing

I also have

4 Bedded Ensuite Rooms @ €23.00 per person per night.

4 Bedded Std Rooms@ €21.00 per person per night.
We do have availability for  accommodation. I will quote just for the weekend and if you need extra days you can let me know.

So there are no twin ensuite - only shared bathroom OR you can share a quad room with an ensuite

So - Camping or hostel?
